We have been driving the base model of the 2020 Chevrolet Malibu for quite sometime now, since it got released a few months back. We found themid-size sedan irresistibly handsome while its list of standard features made us stick to this model and finally drive it home.
The 2020 Chevrolet Malibu entered the market of mid-size sedans with loads of appreciable factors, that almost paralleled the appeal of the SUV and crossover sectors in terms of utility. Stylized in its exterior look and comfortable in its interior functionality, the 2020 Chevrolet Malibu took no time to impress us to that extent that we finally zeroed down to the base model of this beautifully crafted mid-size sedan. What we appreciated side by side is the courage and spirit of its automaker that didn’t shrink away from the hard work of making this sedan compete with the crossover SUV segment that is already enjoying an upper hand in the automotive industry.
What is Different for the 2020 Model Year Edition?
As gathered from the Phoenix Chevrolet dealer sales staff, for the year 2020, Chevrolet begets its Malibu series a set of minimal changes that includes the introduction of two new exterior colors that match perfectly with the newly designed frontal grille that proudly holds the Chevrolet bow. The grille looked extra wide this time while its sloping roofline gave the sedan a more coupe-like gamut that shrugged off the popularity of many of its competitors. So does its tapered tail end that make you keep watching its rear end, if a 2020 Malibu is standing ahead of you in the traffic signal. We also noticed the new wheel design on the RS trim models. The only change we couldn’t appreciate much is the absence of the Malibu Hybrid trim, which deserved to be there for this year lineup, which otherwise looks incomplete with only L, LS, RS, LT, and Premier trims, all running on expensive gasoline.
Feature Packages Offered to Us
We knew the fact in advance that the Chevrolet Malibu series has underwent a mid-cycle refresh last year, that made the Malibu models look sharper and smarter than ever, which is high praise for a mid-size sedan. When supported with the new RS appearance package, the already handsome Chevrolet sedan can’t be compared with its look alike models, as that accentuates it’s overall profile to the next level.
Handling Experience
The 2020 Chevrolet Malibu that we drove home from the showroom of the Phoenix Chevrolet dealership had under its hood, a 1.5-liter turbo-4 engine that could crank a respectable 163 horsepower which is enough for this mid-size sedan which is aimed to perform more in the winding roads of the cities rather than the speeding highways.
The engine is given a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) to pair with. The sellers did mention of the more powerful engine option that was available in the lineup of the 2020 Chevrolet Malibu, with 2.0-liter turbo-4 capacity making 250 hp, that paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. But this time we only needed a basic car that can ease out our regular city commutes.
