About

Cawley Carr, M.S., CCC-SLP is a licensed speech/language pathologist and educational therapist specializing in children's speech/language and learning skills.  After graduating from UCLA, Cawley received her Master's Degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Texas.   She attended the University of San Francisco to obtain an Ed.D. in Learning and Instruction.  Cawley has professional experience consulting with medical and educational specialists.  She has worked in public, private, charter, and home schools, hospitals, and private practice settings with children of all ages.

Cawley is a current board member of the Northern California Branch of the International Dyslexia Association and is an active member of the American Speech, Language, Hearing Association. Cawley attends national and international conferences and consults with leading researchers continuously to supplement her areas of expertise.  Cawley has led language workshops and training seminars focusing on the special needs of children with language/learning differences. Cawley has served on panels regarding the language underpinnings of learning deficits. She presents parent, teacher, and paraprofessional inservices regarding the oral-speech mechanism, latest research on language acquisition and development, the language-learning connection as well as specific language impairments.

Cawley has specialized experience serving many at-risk populations, such as those with apraxia, ADD, autism, Aspergers, dyslexia, NVLD, PDD, Tourette's and other tic disorders. She has specific training in aiding students with auditory memory/processing deficits, receptive and expressive language disorders, phonological disorders, and executive functioning deficits. Also, she works with students to address social-pragmatic language and cognitive reasoning deficits. 

Cawley has received extensive training in diagnosing and treating children with speech/language/learning differences.  Cawley is trained in many oral-motor and speech facilitation methods, such PROMPT AND DTTC. Also, she is trained in a number of multisensory approaches and incorporates many learning programs in her work, including Orton-Gillingham, (Alphabet Phonics, Project Read, Slingerland, Wilson) Language!, Lindamood-Bell (LIPS, Seeing Stars, V/V,) Step-Up-To-Writing, POWERwriting, Barton Method, RAVE-O, and Fast ForWord. 

In addition to Cawley's clinical interaction with clients, she represents student and family needs at Student Study Team and I.E.P. meetings. Cawley collaborates with paraprofessionals, school teachers, and administrators to best support a child's language/learning profile in a home and school setting. Often, Cawley's assistance is requested to document and employ speech/language and learning accommodations and modifications for these settings.  Cawley prepares presentations and speaks publicly at local, national and international conventions.
